You login to Hotmail every day. But have you ever heard of Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Hotmail and MSN Hotmail? You’ve heard it! But do you really distinguish them?
If the answer is no, then do not worry, you are normal as the rest of the world – including me, And the rest of the world have the ability to clearly distinguish these concepts – probably includes only Microsoft employees.
I am familiar with computing not so long, but enough to realize that Microsoft is always making things more complicated than its own nature. I spent some time exploring the above, and now I may have understood it.
-This is an attached program in Windows Vista. It replaces the Outlook Express software, which is included with other versions of Windows.
-Windows Mail has the same features as Outlook Express.
-In my experience, I can assure you that Microsoft does not develop Windows Mail as a new tool, only renaming it, fixing the interface and adjusting some settings so that it can run on Vista.
-If you want to have Windows Mail to use, the only way is to install Windows Vista. Consequently, please leave a comment below the post if you have other ways.
Windows Live Mail:
-This is another Microsoft program, different from Windows Mail above. This application is included in the Windows Live Essential software package and is currently in beta phase.
-According to what we see in the beta version, this application has a very similar interface with Outlook 2010, the feature is a little more than Outlook Express and Windows Mail.
-On the other hand, you can install Windows Live Mail on 2 previous operating systems, Windows XP and Windows Vista, so I really do not understand what is the use of Windows Mail?
-Currently, you can not even find the official homepage of Outlook Express software (it’s used to be available on Internet Explorer ).
Windows Live Hotmail:
-This has nothing of relating to the things I just said above. Windows Live Hotmail is a free web-based email service, with many new features.
-To access this service, simply type mail.live.com in the address bar and press Enter.
-This application is designed to be accessed on the web, which means that you do not need to install any programs on your computer.
-Although it’s free, “free” is worth it, I’ll explain it in another article. A computer using the Windows Live Mail software can access all Emails on Windows Live Hotmail, Gmail, and another web-based email.
-This is the old Microsoft Hotmail system that our predecessors used to use before Gmail appeared.
-“Hotmail” was introduced in 1996, on the date of American Independence (July 4, 1996); it was designed to be accessed on the Web. And at that time, Hotmail was a symbol of “freedom”. It is independent of the email service provided by ISPs at the time.
–Hotmail is famous for its large number of subscribers (30 million subscribers as of February 1999), and its slow access.
-Due to the rapid development of Gmail and Yahoo! Mail that MSN Hotmail has lost a lot of users.
-MSN Hotmail is still in existence, as Microsoft is still working on the mandatory migration from its old MSN Hotmail mail system to its new Windows Live Hotmail mail system. This transition is gradual, and certainly will not stop, so in the future, MSN Hotmail will completely disappear, with only Windows Live Hotmail.
